Hyundai Motor Company has revealed the INSTEROID concept, a radical new electric vehicle that blends high-performance styling with gaming-inspired design. Based on the Hyundai INSTER, this concept takes things up a notch with a widened body, aggressive aerodynamics, and advanced interactive features.
A bold new take on INSTER
The INSTEROID is built on the INSTER, Hyundai’s successful electric SUV that quickly gained global popularity. While the INSTER is already a stylish and practical urban EV, the INSTEROID pushes the limits of design, featuring track-ready wheels, a prominent rear spoiler, and a more aggressive stance. Its name combines "INSTER" with "STEROID," symbolizing its muscular, high-performance appeal.

Designed for emotion and engagement
Crafted by Hyundai’s European design team, the INSTEROID is more than just a visual statement. It creates an immersive driving experience with a stripped-down interior, featuring bucket seats, a roll cage, and a specialized instrument cluster. The concept even includes a unique sound signature and Hyundai’s innovative Drift Mode, adding a playful and competitive element to driving.

INSTEROID is also packed with interactive features like the Beat House sound system and Message Grid, allowing for personalized engagement. The Boost icon, integrated throughout the design, represents multiple personas, emphasizing the deep connection between the car and the driver.
Sustainable innovation meets cutting-edge tech
Hyundai’s commitment to sustainability is evident in INSTEROID’s interior, which features 3D knit fabric made from recycled materials. The exterior, finished in a soft white with a bold orange highlight, reinforces the car’s futuristic and dynamic aesthetic.

INSTEROID made its debut at a launch event in Seoul, where Hyundai also introduced a custom-built racing game featuring the car. This initiative aligns with Hyundai’s growing presence in the gaming industry, following collaborations with Roblox and ZEPETO.
Where to see the INSTEROID concept
INSTEROID will be showcased at the Seoul Mobility Show from April 3-13, followed by appearances at major auto events in Korea and Europe. It serves as a halo model for the INSTER lineup, enhancing Hyundai’s brand image and consumer engagement.
As Hyundai expands the global rollout of the INSTER in 2025, the INSTEROID concept hints at the company’s evolving vision for sporty, customizable electric vehicles. Whether elements of this concept make it to production remains to be seen, but one thing is certain—Hyundai is redefining what a fun-to-drive EV can be.
