BYD has officially revealed the Sealion 05 EV, its latest all-electric SUV, bringing a fresh design, a new technology platform, and competitive performance. Positioned as an entry-level electric SUV in the Sealion lineup, it offers two battery options and comes equipped with BYD’s God’s Eye C ADAS system as standard.
Exterior and interior design
The Sealion 05 EV takes design cues from its sibling, the Atto 3, featuring a connected LED headlight setup upfront. The bumper houses multiple sensors and cameras, with a wide air dam and vertical air intakes enhancing aerodynamics. Side profile elements include thick plastic cladding with body-colored inserts, black-and-silver alloy wheels, and a floating roof effect created by a blacked-out D-pillar. The rear is defined by a long rectangular LED light bar, an illuminated BYD logo, and a sporty roof spoiler.
The BYD Sealion 05 EV’s interior follows a clean and modern design, featuring a large floating touchscreen infotainment system at the center. The sleek, two-tone dashboard integrates slim air vents and glossy black trim, adding a premium touch. The steering wheel has a sporty, futuristic design with integrated controls, while the center console offers a minimalist layout with a covered storage compartment and dual cupholders. The spacious cabin, paired with light-colored upholstery, enhances the sense of openness and comfort.
Powertrain & range: 2 battery options
The Sealion 05 EV features a rear-wheel-drive, single-motor layout and promises a "class-leading" turning radius. It is available with:
- 50 kWh battery – 188 hp, 430 km range (claimed)
- 60.9 kWh battery – 214 hp, 520 km range (claimed)
Both variants have a top speed electronically limited to 180 km/h. The Sealion 05 EV’s wheelbase is slightly longer than its plug-in hybrid counterpart, measuring 2,720 mm.
Launch & availability
BYD has confirmed that the Sealion 05 EV will debut in China on March 25, with global availability details yet to be announced. While BYD has been expanding aggressively in India, the brand has not confirmed if the Sealion 05 EV will make its way to Indian shores.
