Volkswagen has unveiled an ambitious roadmap for its future, reinforcing its commitment to electric mobility. At a recent works meeting in Wolfsburg, Volkswagen CEO Thomas Schäfer outlined the brand’s three-stage plan—Catch Up, Attack, and Lead—which aims to make Volkswagen the global leader in affordable EVs by 2030. A key highlight was the first glimpse of VW’s upcoming entry-level electric model, expected to be priced around €20,000, set for a public debut in March 2025.
A New Affordable Electric Model for Europe
One of the most exciting announcements was Volkswagen’s plan to introduce an all-electric compact car at an affordable price of €20,000. Schäfer emphasized that the new model would be “an affordable, high-quality, profitable electric Volkswagen from Europe for Europe.”

The upcoming entry-level EV will join Volkswagen’s new small electric car family, which includes the ID. 2all production version—another highly anticipated affordable EV set to launch in 2026 for under €25,000. This move aligns with Volkswagen’s strategy to make electric mobility accessible to the masses, particularly in Europe.
Volkswagen’s EV Expansion: More Models on the Horizon
By 2027, Volkswagen plans to launch nine new electric models, including:
- The production version of the ID. 2all – an affordable small EV.
- A new entry-level electric car – priced around €20,000.
- Next-generation electric Golf and electric T-Roc – built on Volkswagen’s upcoming SSP (Scalable Systems Platform).
Volkswagen’s ID. lineup has already sold over 1.35 million units globally, including 500,000 ID.3 units, proving the growing demand for its electric vehicles.
Wolfsburg: The Future Hub for Volkswagen’s EV Production
Schäfer reaffirmed that Volkswagen’s main plant in Wolfsburg will remain at the heart of the company’s transformation. The factory is set to become a pioneer in next-gen EV production, with plans to manufacture:
- The all-electric Golf successor on the SSP platform.
- The high-volume electric T-Roc, securing a production volume of over 500,000 units per year.
By relocating ICE Golf production to Mexico, Volkswagen aims to free up space in Wolfsburg for cutting-edge EV manufacturing processes.

Volkswagen’s “Triple A” Plan: Catch Up, Attack, and Lead
Volkswagen’s three-phase strategy aims to strengthen its global position in the EV market:
- Catch Up – Improve cost structures and expand the EV model lineup.
- Attack – Introduce nine new electric models by 2027, including affordable small EVs.
- Lead – Become the top EV brand in the volume segment worldwide.
With a clear vision for the future, Volkswagen is positioning itself as a dominant force in the electric vehicle market. Its commitment to affordable, high-quality EVs could redefine the industry, making sustainable mobility accessible to millions.
