Delhi showroom also in the works
Reports suggest that Tesla has secured another showroom space in Delhi’s Aerocity, a prime commercial zone near Indira Gandhi International Airport. However, details about this showroom remain under wraps.
Government’s EV policy: a helping hand for Tesla?
Tesla’s India entry is being facilitated by a new EV import policy, reducing import duties from 110% to 15%—but only for carmakers that commit to local manufacturing in India within a few years. Tesla is reportedly considering Chakan, Maharashtra, for a future factory.
What This Means for India’s EV Market
While Tesla is gearing up to enter the Indian market, it hasn’t confirmed which models will launch first. The brand is expected to import its EVs initially via the CBU (Completely Built-Up) route, meaning prices could be steep.
Tesla’s arrival could shake up India’s luxury EV space, currently led by Mercedes-Benz, BMW, and Volvo. If local production follows, Tesla might even introduce more affordable models down the line.
