Mahindra has unveiled the much-anticipated XEV 9e electric SUV, and it’s ready to turn heads with its bold design, powerful performance, and advanced technology. Starting at ₹30.50 lakh (ex-showroom) for the top-spec variant, the XEV 9e is packed with futuristic features and top-tier specifications, setting a new benchmark for electric SUVs in India. Lower-spec variants are priced at ₹21.90 lakh onwards.
Design: Bold and Futuristic
The Mahindra XEV 9e strikes an impressive balance between aggressive styling and futuristic elements. The front of the SUV is dominated by its connected LED DRLs that seamlessly extend to the sides of the vertically stacked LED projector headlights. The blanked-off grille adds to the sleek, EV-specific design, while the chunky black skid plate on the lower bumper gives it a rugged, off-road-ready look.
As an SUV-coupe, the XEV 9e features a sloping roofline that flows gracefully towards the rear. The flush door handles, body-colored ORVMs, and black cladding on the wheel arches all contribute to the vehicle's sophisticated and aerodynamic profile. The standard 19-inch wheels can be upgraded to 20-inch dual-tone alloy wheels, adding a stylish touch. At the rear, the connected LED tail light setup, protruding tailgate with an illuminated Infinity logo, and black rear bumper with chrome applique give the XEV 9e a distinctive and dynamic presence on the road.
Interior: Cutting-Edge Technology and Comfort
Inside, the XEV 9e is as futuristic as its exterior. The cabin is equipped with a layered dashboard design that houses three 12.3-inch screens, providing an immersive digital experience for both the driver and the passenger. The two-spoke steering wheel features an illuminated logo and controls for the advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), along with a boost button for an additional power surge when needed.
Key interior features include:
- Wireless phone charger
- Leatherette upholstery
- Ventilated and powered front seats
- Panoramic glass roof with ambient lighting
- 1400-watt 16-speaker Harman Kardon audio system
- Augmented Reality (AR) heads-up display
The XEV 9e ensures that all passengers enjoy a premium experience, with rear AC vents and spacious seating for all.
Powertrain and Performance
The XEV 9e’s Pack Three variant comes with a powerful 79 kWh LFP battery, delivering an ARAI-certified range of 656 km. In real-world conditions, Mahindra claims it will provide over 500 km of range with the air conditioning running. The 282bhp electric motor and 380Nm of torque enable the XEV 9e to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 6.8 seconds.
Charging options are impressive, with the XEV 9e supporting 175 kW DC fast charging, which can charge the battery from 20% to 80% in just 20 minutes. There are also two optional home charging units available (to be purchased separately): 7.3 kWh and 11.2 kWh.
Three driving modes — Range, Everyday, and Race — give drivers the flexibility to choose their desired driving experience, with an additional Boost mode available for extra power when needed.
