BYD is keeping the momentum going in India. After introducing the Sealion 7, the Chinese EV giant has now patented the design of the Denza Z9 GT. While this doesn’t confirm an India launch, it certainly raises eyebrows—could BYD be safeguarding its design, or is the brand seriously considering bringing its high-performance Shooting Brake to our shores?
A high-performance Shooting Brake
The Denza Z9 GT stands out with its unique Shooting Brake design, blending the sleekness of a coupe with the practicality of a station wagon. It features a sloping roofline, a five-door layout, and a premium liftback-style tailgate. This model shares its DNA with the Denza Z9 sedan but offers a more dynamic and versatile package.

Performance: triple motors & over 950 BHP
In China, the Z9 GT is offered in both fully electric and plug-in hybrid variants. The top-spec EV model packs a triple-motor setup that churns out a jaw-dropping 952 bhp, catapulting the car from 0-100 kmph in just 3.4 seconds. A 100 kWh battery ensures a solid 630 km range.
For those who prefer a hybrid, the PHEV variant combines BYD’s DM 5.0 tech with a 2.0L petrol engine and a 38.51 kWh battery. Together, they deliver 858 bhp and offer an electric-only range of 201 km, extending to 1,100 km with the petrol engine.
Exterior design
Stretching over 5.1 meters with a 3,125 mm wheelbase, the Denza Z9 GT has an imposing road presence. BYD’s ‘Elegance in Motion’ philosophy is evident in its long bonnet, flush door handles, wraparound tail lamps, and aerodynamic rear spoiler. The India patent design doesn’t include rear-view cameras, but the global version does offer them.

Tech-Loaded interior
Inside, the Denza Z9 GT is a tech lover’s dream. It boasts five high-resolution displays, including a massive 17.3-inch infotainment screen, a 13.2-inch driver display, and a 50-inch heads-up display. There’s even a passenger screen and two screens for the rear-view camera feed.

Comfort is a priority, with electrically adjustable, heated, and ventilated seats featuring a massage function. Other highlights include a premium Devialet audio system with retractable speakers, a dual-zone panoramic sunroof, 128-color ambient lighting, and even built-in refrigerators—4 liters in the front and a larger 10-liter unit at the rear.
Will it come to India?
Although there is no final word on it yet, but if BYD brings the Z9 GT to India, it could be a game-changer in the high-performance luxury EV segment. With an estimated price of ₹50 lakh in China, it could compete with premium EVs and hybrids in the country.
