Ather Energy Limited, one of India’s leading electric two-wheeler manufacturers, has partnered with ChargeMOD, a Kerala-based charge point operator, to expand its EV charging network. This collaboration grants electric vehicle (EV) owners using the LECCS (Light Electric Combined Charging System) connector access to 121 additional charging locations across Kerala.
Expanding Ather Grid’s Reach in Kerala
Ather Energy has been a pioneer in developing India's EV charging infrastructure, launching the Ather Grid in 2018 as the country’s first fast-charging network for two-wheelers. As of December 31, 2024, Ather had installed 291 fast chargers across Kerala, solidifying its position as the state’s leading electric two-wheeler brand. With over 10,000 sales recorded in Kerala over the last two quarters, Ather’s commitment to enhancing charging accessibility aligns with the growing demand for EVs in the region.
ChargeMOD, known for its extensive EV charging network across India, Nepal, and Abu Dhabi, adds value to this partnership by integrating its 121 new locations into Ather’s network. This ensures that Ather users, along with other electric two-wheeler owners using the LECCS connector, can conveniently charge their vehicles across the state.
A Step Towards Interoperability
Ather Energy’s Chief Business Officer, Ravneet Singh Phokela, emphasized the company’s vision of collaborating with charge point operators (CPOs) to expand India’s charging ecosystem. With the LECCS standard now recognized as Type 7, Ather’s partnership with ChargeMOD represents a step towards increased interoperability, making EV charging more accessible for all.
ChargeMOD’s Founder, Visakh Raj, echoed this sentiment, stating that the partnership aims to set a new standard for light electric vehicle (LEV) charging in India. By combining ChargeMOD’s expansive network with Ather’s advanced charging technology, this collaboration will accelerate EV adoption and contribute to India’s goal of a cleaner, greener future.
Ather’s Growing Charging Network
Ather Energy has been actively expanding its charging infrastructure across the country. The company has previously partnered with Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited, Sangeetha Mobiles, and Café Coffee Day to install Ather Grid fast chargers at various locations. In FY 2025 (April-December), Ather added 799 fast chargers to its network, bringing the total count to 2,583 chargers as of December 2024.
With a strong focus on making EV ownership hassle-free, Ather’s continued expansion of its charging infrastructure plays a crucial role in promoting sustainable mobility. The ChargeMOD partnership is yet another step in the right direction, ensuring that EV users in Kerala have convenient access to a reliable charging network.
E-Thoughts
As the EV landscape in India evolves, collaborations like Ather Energy and ChargeMOD’s partnership are essential in bridging infrastructure gaps. With 121 new charging points now available in Kerala, Ather is not only enhancing its charging network but also reinforcing its commitment to a future where EVs are the norm.
