Mercedes-Benz is gearing up to launch the EQA SUV in India on July 8, 2024, as part of its plan to expand its EV lineup in the country. The EQA, an all-electric counterpart to the GLA, is among the six EV launches Mercedes has planned for India by the end of this decade. It will be the automaker's fourth electric vehicle in India, following the EQB, EQE, and EQS.
The model arriving in India is the facelifted version that debuted globally in August last year. This battery-powered SUV will be available as a fully imported CBU model. Let's delve into the specs of this new model.
Battery & Powertrain Specs
The Mercedes EQA is available in four variants globally: EQA 250, EQA 250+, EQA 300 4Matic, and EQA 350 4Matic. Each variant features different battery and motor setups. The EQA 250 and 250+ both deliver 188 bhp and 385 Nm of torque. The EQA 300 produces 225 bhp and 390 Nm, while the EQA 350 generates 288 bhp and 520 Nm.
The EQA 250, 300, and 350 come with a 66.5 kWh battery pack, while the EQA 250+ is equipped with a larger 70.5 kWh unit. This allows the SUV to offer a range of up to 560 km (WLTP) on a full charge with the 70.5 kWh battery and up to 528 km (WLTP) with the 66.5 kWh battery.
It's important to mention that Mercedes-Benz has not yet disclosed which variant of the EQA will be available in India.
Tech features and Looks
The EQA boasts a unique design, including streamlined headlamps, a closed-off grille adorned with small tri-pointed stars, updated bumpers, aero-specific alloys, and an integrated LED taillight design. Inside, it's expected to feature a Burmester sound system with Dolby Atmos, a digital driver display, a touch-sensitive three-spoke steering wheel, and a 10.25-inch touchscreen with the latest operating system.
Higher-spec variants are anticipated to offer dual-zone climate control, powered front seats, a panoramic sunroof, 64-color ambient lighting, and Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility. Safety features will likely include electronic stability control, multiple airbags, front and rear parking sensors, and advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS).
The forthcoming electric SUV will be slotted below the EQB (Rs 77.75 lakh ex-showroom) in Mercedes-Benz’s Indian portfolio. As a more affordable entry, it is likely to be priced around Rs 60 lakh (ex-showroom). In terms of rivals, the EQA will go head-to-head with the BMW iX1, Volvo XC40 Recharge, and the C40 Recharge in India.
