Following the successful trademarking of their Seagull electric hatchback in 2023, BYD is now gearing up for Seagull's introduction in the Indian market. The hatchback’s launch is expected in July 2024, and marks BYD's entry into the compact hatchback segment, offering a compelling choice for urban commuters.
A 5-door electric hatchback, the Seagull showcases a tallboy design with sharp accents. Its headlight cluster exudes a sharp look, complemented by an aggressive bumper design. On the side profile, its sporty appeal is evident with a roof-integrated spoiler and a rising window line. From the rear, the connected LED tail lamps enhance its visual appeal, adding to its overall charm.
The unveiling of the Seagull marked a significant moment for BYD at the Shanghai Motor Show in April 2023. Positioned as BYD's most budget-friendly vehicle to date, the Seagull is anticipated to hit the market at an attractive price point of just Rs. 10 lakh. This positions it squarely against the market’s cheaper segment’s competitors such as the Tata Tiago EV, MG Comet EV, and Citroën EC3
With the electric vehicle market on the rise in India, BYD has also trademarked "Sea Lion", their upcoming premium model. Test versions of this car have been seen outside India, hinting at its launch in near future. The Sea Lion will likely be placed above BYD's current Atto 3 model, showing the company's efforts to meet changing customer demands and make a bigger impact in India's car market.
